October 5th-- We are here!!!!!!

October 5, 2012

Friday 4:00pm Africa Time

We only have about an hour till we land!!!!! I am beyond excited to step into the airport, step into a new country, on a new continent! I wonder what the people will look like at the airport, what the countryside will look like once we leave the airport. The flight hasn’t been that terrible. I’ve tried to sleep most of the time, but it has been very bumpy. It is going to be weird stepping off the plane and it being Friday night. I will write more once we get to where we are staying the night.
7:30pm
We made it to our hotel! We are staying about ten minutes away from the airport in a City Lodge Hotel. It is very nice. We each have our own beds—Stacy and I are sharing a room. We have a tub and a glass shower! I am at the computer center right now writing in this journal. The flight wasn’t bad at all. I am super tired though. I tried to sleep, but didn’t sleep well. It feels unreal that I am here in Africa. It still hasn’t sank in for any of us. The airport was normal—lots of people waiting in customs. Johnnie, our driver working with Horizon met us at the airport and we loaded all of our bags into a full side van and a trailer hooked up to the back to fit all of our luggage. Tomorrow we will head to the gaming lodge in Tshukudu for our free day. I am very excited to see all the animals. We will then have a big roast tomorrow night and stay there in the Bush. After a walk with big cats in the Bush, we will then drive to Limpopo to work with the orphans and start ground work on a church in Ramaroka. I am beyond ready to see the kiddos. We are debriefing as a team in about 15 minute in the lobby and eating dinner here at the hotel. It’s about 1:30pm at home—everybody is still in school and I am sitting in a hotel lobby in Africa. God amazes me everyday. Thank for Lord for safe travels. Help us all to sleep well, rest up tonight and have an amazing day exploring ithis beautiful earth You have created.

10:20pm
Just got back from a great dinner at the hotel with the team.  Doug and Susan sat by me and I got to have a great conversation about how consumerism is taking over America and our churches. Each team member brings a unique perspective. I know we were all be learning from each other and growing daily with our walk with the Lord.  We talked about how Satan wanted more—He wanted God’s Throne—and we all think we need more, but we have all we need in Jesus. We have everything Jesus can offer us—we must just give up our lifestyle, give up our old life. The church is forgetting to tell people it’s going to be a hard road following Jesus, because we will have to make personal sacrifices. We must become dependent on Jesus. I know I have made many changes in my life. I am excited to see how the lord wants to change my heart even more.
Thank you Jesus for this amazing day. Looking forward to another great day tomorrow.
